Bike

Hopefully I'll be taking other photos tonight since we're going to a formal party and we'll be all decked out.  However, I don't want to be up until midnight or later posting, so I wanted to get something up today and then post any I take later tonight tomorrow.  This isn't anything to write home about, but the color of the bike leaning against the fence caught my attention and I thought it would work with one of my iphone vintage apps.

Photo collages

I've been attracted to abstract recently.  Today I was inspired by a newsletter I receive, Photojojo (subscribe at www.photojojo.com).  The newsletter featured creative work by Phillip Maisel (check out his work at www.phillipmaisel.com).  What he does (and what I did) is takes a slow shutter speed image of the computer screen of photos in a facebook (or flickr or picasa, etc.) album.  As the shutter is open, you page through several photos to create a collage on one frame.  I did these very quickly and really couldn't tell how they would turn out until I cropped them on my computer.  Some were very interesting.  These are all my own images, taken from our trips to Africa, the Todd Liberty Parade (all photo albums on my facebook page) and images from this blog from my picasa page.  A totally different approach and I appreciate the inspiration.  Phillip's work puts mine to shame, so please check out his website.

Mojo unfocused

It's late and I just got home from dinner with a friend and remembered that I haven't touched a camera all day.  So, I got out my fast lens so I could get something in lamplight without dragging out the tripod.  Of course at f1.4 the depth of field is so shallow that not much is in focus (plus a slow shutter speed, some camera shake and some cat movement).  However, it's a photo and I've posted it.  Some days are just like that.  Maybe I'll give this more attention tomorrow....

Backlit lemon

My goal today was to photograph a lemon slice, highlighting its transparency, against a black background. I didn't get the exact shot I was looking for - there was light leakage around the edge of the lemon and the lemon itself was not very fresh, so there are brown spots and it's pretty dried out.  I'll try again, but I'm not exactly sure how to get the complete effect (even with a fresh lemon!)

Mint Museum abstract

Something a little different tonight.  I went to the Mint Museum to see if there was anything on the property to photograph.  Not much....a fountain, a stream, and the entrance flags.  This is a photo of two of the entrance flags, cropped down to a color abstract.

Miscellaneous images of the day

Not very creative today, so I just took some miscellaneous shots at the end of the day of various subjects.  Hobbes hasn't made the blog in a while, so there is one of him, a small tumbler on its side in the sun, a nice one of George from dinner, a meditation bell on our back porch, and after dinner tea service.  A mix of dslr and iphone.....just a hodgepodge.  Some days I see potential images everywhere I look, and then on days like today I struggle just to get the blog done.

Hole #5

A punt tonight.  We've been out all day, so I took my camera with us to dinner and got a shot of the devilish hole #5 from the vantage point of a deck above the hole.  This little pond has eaten dozens of my balls!
