Bottled sunshine
I've been playing around with backlighting some, so this morning when the sun was low, I saw it shining through this bottle of sugar water we have on the porch to attract flies and yellow jackets. I tried to get the sun just behind the bottle to fill it with light. When the light is this beautiful I just want to photograph everything in sight. Lovely morning!

Dutch angle shot
Today the assignment on Digital Photography School was to do a "dutch angle shot". These are shots taken at an angle to give a somewhat mysterious (film noir-ish) look. Think Hitchcock... Here is my first attempt at doing this. I'd like to play around with this some more to figure out the best angle. I also think shooting it from a lower perspective would increase the effect. This was shot at 10mm (cropped body) f3.5 1/25 sec.

Not well hidden
When Susie really wants to sleep, she likes to crawl under a pillow. This morning I noticed that this pillow had feet....she's not very good at hiding. Can you tell my inspiration is pretty low today?

Speeding
I have an idea for a photo that shows George speeding down the road with the lights rushing by. I tried to capture this tonight with marginal results as shown. This was on East Blvd. and there weren't enough side and overhead lights to capture. Also, since the lights weren't as plentiful as I'd like, I needed a slower shutter speed to get the light trails, and with the bumpy road, the foreground was very blurred. While it didn't turn out the way I had envisioned, I liked the effect well enough to try another one downtown sometime soon.

Cha Cha John
We're having a great time in our dance class. Tonight we continued the Cha Cha and here is our wonderful and incredibly patient instructor, Nickolai, teaching John the basics. Horrible lighting and a slow shutter speed didn't help the quality of the photos, but hopefully they show the fun we're having.

Depth of field
George gave me a wonderful lens for my birthday. It's a Canon 50mm f1.4 so it's nice and fast and creates a nicely shallow depth of field with good bokeh. We've been out on the porch in the pouring rain so I snapped a few plants to play around with the depth of field. "Subject" liked the color one and I liked the b&w....so I posted both.
