Suzy in hiding
Okay....tonight is a punt. Busy all day and just a quick shot of Suzy peeking out from her hiding spot under a pillow on the chair in the reading room. Not a good photo, but at least I didn't skip a day. Hopefully tomorrow will provide more time and creative thought.

Self Portrait with Camera
This is my first ever self portrait.
I'm taking a photography composition class and our assignment this week is to document our daily lives. Realizing that making photos is an important part of my routine, I decided to start with this image. I took this in the mirror and then flipped it horizontally to correct the lettering on the lens. I'm not sure this will be my final one....I think I can do better, but this was the best of the group I took today. I can already tell that I'm thinking about composition as I rejected shots where my rings or watch were distracting or where my neck strap got in the way. I don't think I would have noticed this before our class last night. Also, I wanted enough of me in the picture to be identifiable, but I wanted the subject to the be camera, not me. Maybe the title should be "Camera Portrait" and not Self Portrait....hmmmmm..

Winter Tree at Dusk
The days are finally getting a little longer and soon the starkness of this tree will be a winter memory. I took this image to capture the golden light from the fading sun captured against the blue background, but once I started playing around with it, I really liked these soft brown tones. I think they better capture the character of the tree. At least I finally got out of the house!

A Hunter in His Own Mind
Our cat Hobbes was perched on my piano watching squirrels out of the living room window. His flicking tail shows he still has some hunter in him, even for a housebound kitty. I decided to play around with the wide angle end of my lens, something I seldom do, to get this skewed perspective. This was shot at 24mm and at 1/10 sec. my handholding (and lying under the piano) didn't get the clearest shot, but I like the intensity in Hobbes' expression and the nice reflection of the window and sky on the piano's glossy finish.

Still Life with Chicken and Two Lemons
In the preface to the recipe for the chicken I'm fixing for dinner tonight, Marcella Hazan says "If this were a still life its title would be 'Chicken with Two Lemons'". So that's the theme for tonight's photo. Just a simple roast chicken dinner.

The forgotten Christmas decoration
There is always one Christmas decoration I forget to take down until after the attic is closed.
I've only been doing this blog for three days and I've already experienced what it's like to be getting ready for bed and realize I haven't done my photo. Hopefully I'll learn some better time management.
