More fun with pinhole

Watching the Masters got me interested in going in the front yard to take some early evening shots of our white azaleas.  I decided to do it with my pinhole cap to make it a little more interesting.  The first shot is of the azaleas with our neighbor's house in the background.  In B&W this is reminiscent of what our neighborhood might have looked like over 50 years ago.  The color shot is looking through the black gum trees at the sky.  I thought this had a painting-like quality.  Both of these shots were at 400 ISO at about 20 seconds.

Nature in B&W

There is a photography newsletter I receive once a week from the Digital Photography School and each week it poses a challenge for the weekend.  When I have time, I try to do the challenge, although I usually don't post my results.  This week the challenge is B&W Nature photography.  I decided to pull out my 100mm macro lens that I haven't played around with much lately, and go into the back yard to see what I could find.  I'm posting a few of the ones I like.  They show the spring beauty of a hosta, Lady Bank's rose and the tiny flowers from a laurel spire.  The day was a little breezy, which makes macro photography a little difficult, and some of the images are not as crisp as I'd like due to the wind.  Also, when you do macro work with this level of magnification, every pollen spore shows up.  As you know, we've had lots of pollen lately, so I had fun zapping all those little dots in Photoshop to get something that wasn't too speckled.

Balinese mask

A total punt tonight.  I've been spring cleaning all day, I'm tired and was just getting ready to go to bed when I remembered that I hadn't posted tonight.  So.....I wandered around the house to find something quick and easy to photograph.  That's about the best I can say about this...quick and easy.  This is a hand-carved mask we bought in Bali many years ago.  At least it wasn't another cat shot tonight!

"G" is for Garden path

I set out this morning to photograph the beautiful spring blossoms in my yard.  I have several other nice color shots of Carolina jasmine, Lady Bank's roses and dogwoods,  but I couldn't resist this image of our neighbor's cat strolling down our garden stone path.  The mazus and creeping Jenny are colorful in the sunshine, but for whatever reason, I liked this shot in b&w.....

Spring training

After buying new pants yesterday to accommodate my winter "growth", I woke today with a renewed interest in getting in shape.  One of the reasons I enjoy my home workout room is because it gets such wonderful morning light.  I decided to take advantage of this soft light with an image to celebrate my return to working out.  To get this shot I wanted a very low angle, and I couldn't get low enough and still look through the viewfinder, so I just put the camera on the floor and after a few shots, got one I liked.  Hopefully I'll be as dedicated to my workouts as I've been (so far) with this blog, and that those new pants will soon need to be taken in!

Orchid in bloom

I realize that my photography pattern for this blog is that I get a bunch of photos one day (like this past Saturday) and then go for a stretch where I have a hard time coming up with one image just to get posted.  Such is life.  This is one of those "hunting for just one image" days.  Here is an orchid that bloomed this past weekend while we were away.  It was in nice light and adds a little color to my often b&w blog.

Happy Easter

A beautiful day and a wonderful Easter brunch with John and Claudia at the Inn at Crestwood.  Not one of my favorite photos, but it captures the moment.  A nice view for a pretty day.
