Driven to drink....

I know this is starting to look like a trend, but we're in Greenville tonight and we worked hard and late today to begin cleaning out George's mom's apartment....so I didn't even think of a photo until we were sitting at a Mexican restaurant ordering dinner.  She has recently moved to an assisted living area and we have to totally clean out her apartment by Wednesday morning.  We've found lots of trash (dozens of empty shoe boxes, bags and bags of raw fabric that was never sewn into anything, old plastic bags full of dozens of other old plastic bags, etc.) and some treasures (letters from a boyfriend who wrote a multiple page typed letter every day for many months, George's dad's slides from a 1963 trip to Russia, his mom's wedding hat).  But most of all we're just exhausted.  The margarita and beer were a nice reward.

Egg

I'm having a hard time right now coming up with ideas for photos.  So often it's late afternoon, I'm in the house without time to get out to find a good shot and I'm just roaming around looking for ideas.  I decided today to play around with lighting and contrast, so I used this egg as my subject.  Late afternoon natural light from a window and some white paper for the background.  I would have preferred a white egg, but this was what I had on hand.   Maybe I need to go back to the alphabet series I started to see if I get inspired.  Now if I can just remember what letter I was on....

Barefoot

When I was a little girl, my mother would always make me wait until May 1st to go barefoot.  Even now I think of May as "barefoot month".

Mountain living room

A punt tonight.  I went up and back to BR today and didn't have time to focus on photography.  I went to the mountains with an interior designer who is working with us on an addition we're doing, so I took some interior shots of the house to send to her.  So....here's a photo of our living room.

Eyes - self portrait

A weekly photography newsletter I follow (Digital Photography School) had an assignment this week to shoot a photo of "Eyes".  Since it's been summer-like weather, I had an idea to do a self portrait in sunglasses and good sunlight.  Well, it's raining today, but I decided to set up some light by a window and try anyway.  I had in mind something serious and mysterious, with just one eye showing behind sunglasses.  Of course as I found out in other attempts at self portraits, I don't do mysterious or serious very well.  I come across looking cranky or depressed.  So I went with one with a slight smile.  I had put on some bright "summer" lipstick, and in some of the images I took, I liked the brightness, but in those photos, the lips were more of a focal point than the eyes, so I decided to soften and desaturate the color to play up the sunglasses.  In some shots, the glasses were so dark that my eye didn't show, so I finally chose this one with one eye showing behind the glass.

Foggy mountain morning

This morning we woke to a blanket of fog.  When we went to breakfast I used the time we were waiting in line to hike up the street and take a few photos.  I like this image because the road (especially the line in the middle) takes me to an unseen place, so there is an element of mystery that always seems to exist in the fog.

I also realized that I've now been doing this blog for 4 months!
